The word that send cold shivers down the spine of webcomic readers everywhere. As some of you may have noticed I haven't updated the comic in a few weeks, and I apologise for not letting you all know of the reasons sooner. Firstly, 7 Shades is not dead; I still have more material written, and more to write, including two new comics I'm working on, however due to real life rearing its ugly head updates for the foreseeable future are likely to be sporadic at best. My advice to all those who want to keep up with any updates etc is to subscribe to my RSS feed (little icon in the URL bar or top right of the news box)...

I've had an epiphany: Meeting girls in clubs is not a good idea. Its taken two decades for me to realise that mutual inebriation is not a solid basis for a relationship, or at least one that last past sunrise. This has lead to the dilemma of where exactly to find females of the pallid and lacy variety other than the clubs and bars dedicated to catering for them. It struck me that I hardly ever see Goths outside of darkened clubs, and when the lights come on they suddenly disappear, scuttling for the exits and darkened recesses (a friend of mine drew the startlingly insightful, if slightly insulting, comparison with cockroaches)...

(Disclaimer: The following is a moody, cynical and thoroughly unfestive rant.) Does anyone else think New Years is just a wee bit pointless? I mean what is it actually for? You travelled in a huge circle around your nearest star. Well done. You are right back where you started. And of course you have to go out. Otherwise people will think you are a sad lonely person because 'It's NEW YEARS EVE!!!'. Which is a circular argument if ever I saw one. It's worse for us up here in the northern hemisphere; its cold out, particularly around midnight. Which is convenient, because that's when you've got to go outside to watch the fireworks, that are without fail, always crap. I wonder if anyone thinks as they ooh and ahh at the city of their choice literally setting fire to millions of whatever it is that passes as the local currency that maybe, just maybe, the money could have been better used elsewhere? This year I will be staying in, trying to make a start on my resolutions, which are to walk in space, cure cancer and invent a detergent that doesn't fade black; I'm going to fail to keep any resolution so I might as well do so spectacularly...

News: Life After the Internet

I'm currently living in an internet free zone, at least where my flat is concerned (which is the reason for the late arrival of today's strip). This would, just a few weeks ago, have been a horrendous situation even to contemplate, having been thoroughly addicted to the web ever since I first started using it. However, once the initial shock had worn off, I found myself not really missing it. In the spaces between when I'm able to pop to the library to get online my friends haven't all deserted me, my inbox isn't exploding with urgent mail and my social life has not collapsed, in short the world is continuing to function as it ever has, indeed while a month ago when my connection went down for a few hours I sat struggling to think of anything to do while waiting for it to return now when I log onto sites like facebook and myspace I find myself wondering how exactly I managed to entertain myself on there for more than 10 minutes, let alone hours. Of course there are times when I�m at a loose end and begin to miss it, but I'm seriously considering not phoning the tech guys to get the connection sorted, maybe I'll find more productive ways of filling my day than youtube.* *Yes, I am aware of the irony of telling the readership of a web comic the merits of not logging on...
